Moses'Business Administration
A famous Indian Missionary Leader declared that 'Delegation' was and is not God's will. “Jethro, a pagan priest from Median had misled Moses.” 1he reasoned. A peep into that leader's character helped me understand how his attitude influenced his interpretation.
Christian leaders should incorporate the acceptable principles of management experts. Of course, there are risks involved; But the risks should never prevent us from attempts.
Dr.Larry Crabb, the Gold medallion award winning author of Christian counseling books, talks about Spoiling the Egyptians.2 “When Moses led the children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage, he took freely of the goods of the Egyptians to sustain God's people on their journey to the Promised Land. God not only approved of this “spoiling” (taking from), but also planned for it to happen and intervened to make it happen. Spoiling the Egyptians is .... a delicate and risky task, appropriate for the Christian and sanctioned by God but by no means free of real danger....we can profit from secular psychology if we carefully screen our concepts to determine their compatibility with Christian presuppositions.” What Dr.Larry says about psychology is applicable to any field. If spoiling Egyptians is permissible, adapting a Median priest's idea should be O.K.
'D Plan' of Jethro
1.Moses must be the representative before God. He should teach people the
decrees and laws and show them the way to live and the duties they are to perform.
2.Moses must Select capable men from all the people
a. men who fear God / b. trustworthy / c. who hate dishonest gain
3.Appoint them as officials over 1000s, 100s, 50s and 10s.
4.Have them serve as judges for the people all the times.
5.Have them bring every difficult case to Moses
6. do this so God commands...
The Benefits of 'D plan'
a) The assistants will make your load lighter / b) The leader will be able to stand the strain and
c) All the people will go home satisfied.
The heathen priest started his advices with God and finished with a condition by making all his advices subject to God's approval (so God commands). Jethro had nothing against the Israelites and their God. After all Moses was his son-in-law. There was no objection about this from God for this idea of delegation. The plan was made and executed in 24 hours time.
God the father sent His Son to this world. Jesus Himself delegated. In Acts, Seven volunteers were given the job of waiting on the tables. Apostle Paul and Barnabas were great fans of delegation. And Paul wrote a lot about this subject.
Leaders delegate for God's sake! Delegate before some expert or your doctor advices so. Your Father-in-law may not visit you :)
